Come behind the scenes for a Creative Shoot at Kate Frost Photography...

So it's been a while since we've been at the studio... the impact the outbreak has had on all our plans has been somewhat devastating which is why I’m so excited to have the studio up and running in the safest way possible!

The studio looks a little different - and so do we! There are automatic motion-sensor hand sanitisers mounted on the wall where you enter the building at the front entrance as well as where you enter the studio. Myself and my team all wear masks and retain a 2m+ distance throughout the shoot. I now shoot from the back of the studio to also limit any unnecessary risk. All studio costume worn is placed in a separate basket and laundered daily.

These are just a few of the measures we're taking to keep us all safe. If you want any more info, you can see the full covid-19 studio policy here.

SO, what's does it look like to be behind the scenes of a creative shoot at the studio?

There are lots of things to think about during a creative shoot... outfits, backdrops, materials, colour schemes, positions! Ultimately, I make my creative shoots completely bespoke to the dancer. One of my favourite quotes is...

‘Creativity is experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes & having fun’ - Mary Lou Cook

It's really important to me that the studio is a safe place where dancers can feel comfortable to express themselves. There are no silly ideas and there are no wrong ideas! We try the ideas and see what works! Sometimes an idea that doesn't work, leads to one that does... and those are the best kind.

It's important for me that when a dancer comes to shoot, the world stops. They are the focus and they are what matters. When the dancer walks in, we automatically become a team. The rest is history...

If you listen to the video, Ava says "hips square, pointe your toe". I'd given her corrections through the shoot and she applied them beautifully. You can even hear my reaction when we got the shot.

Every dancer that I meet offers a different look on the way I shoot. They are my inspiration and I offer inspiration to them. There is laughter, sweat and sometimes tears but it's a beautiful journey with a stunning destination...

I want to reach out and help dancers everywhere. There are no words to explain how wonderful it feels to create moments like these. If you want to talk through ideas for your shoot, get in touch - I can't wait to meet you!
